National Reference Laboratories

Pursuant to Article 4 of the German Animal Diseases Act the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut is assigned as National Reference Laboratory (NRL) for over 50 notifiable and other reportable animal diseases. On the international level, the FLI houses eight reference laboratories and the „Collaborating Centre for Zoonoses in Europe“ of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), and a „Collaborating Centre for Rabies" of the World Health Organization (WHO).

Animal Welfare Officer

Institutions where animal experiments are carried out on vertebrate animals are required by the Animal Welfare Act to appoint an animal welfare officer.

Libraries

The libraries of the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institute are scientific special libraries with limited public access. Their main task is to supply the scientific staff of the eleven FLI Institutes at currently seven locations with scientific information and literature.
