TRACES

TRACES (TRAdeControl and Expert System) is an IT project of the EU Commission which serves for documentation of the movement of animals and products of animal origin within the EU and of imports from third countries. This system aims at the improvement of control and tracing of the movement of animals and products of animal origin and at supporting veterinary border control agencies in decision-making with regard to the import of animals and products of animal origin. Designed as web application, it provides quick and up-to-date information for the responsible veterinary authorities. A future use for electronic certification is intended. Use of TRACES became mandatory for all member states on January 1, 2005 (Decision 2004/292/EC of the Commission dd. March 30, 2004).

For technical realization and support at the national level, the FLI Wusterhausen, Institute of Epidemiology, is responsible (designation in TRACES „Member State Administrator“).
