Annual Animal Health Reports

The Annual Animal Health Report is published every year and gives an overview of farm animal husbandry in Germany. The FLI is legally obliged to establish the report pursuant to Article 4, paragraph 4 of the Animal Diseases Act. The report is composed of five chapters: Chapter 1 provides an overview of the current situation of the public veterinary services of the Federal Republic of Germany. It defines the tasks of the public veterinary services and of the individual authorities responsible for a certain field. In addition, it provides statistical information on the German veterinary community. Chapter 2 indicates the financial contribution of the European Union in the frame of Decision 90/424/EEC. Chapter 3 contains data on the development of farm animal holdings in Germany and indicates the numbers of cattle, pigs, sheep and poultry raised in the individual federal states. Chapter 4 lists the cases of notifiable animal diseases recorded within the reporting period. In contrast to the statistics in human medicine, the report does not list individual cases, but the number of farms where new infections occurred. Chapter 5 provides detailed data on selected notifiable animal diseases derived from current investigations. The full report is available in German language only; in Chapter 5, an English summary is provided for each animal disease.
