At its fall session in Brussels, the Royal Belgian Academy of Medicine has elected the President of the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut, Prof. Thomas C. Mettenleiter, as foreign corresponding member (membre correspondant étranger). He will be a member of Section VI of the Academy “Veterinary Sciences”. „I feel honoured with my election, which I understand as an appreciation of the FLIs numerous cooperations with Belgian colleagues.“, explains Prof. Mettenleiter.
The Academy communicated that the election was based on Mettenleiter’s scientific achievements and his many years of close cooperation with different Belgian universities, such as the Universities of Liège and Ghent. The Royal Belgian Academy of Medicine („Académie royale de Médecine de Belgique") was founded in Brussels in 1841. At present, it has 154 Belgian and 182 foreign members.
